Beginner’s Guide: DINOSAUR Ride at Disney World

DINOSAUR is an underrated ride at Disney World. It is often overshadowed by more popular Animal Kingdom rides such as Avatar Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey. DINOSAUR is in my 10-year-old son’s top 10 favorite dark rides at Disney World. Here is a beginner’s guide to DINOSAUR ride. Below you will find everything you need to know about DINOSAUR Ride at Animal Kingdom.

What is Disney’s DINOSAUR Ride?

DINOSAUR is a family-friendly dark ride that is exciting and immersive. It is located in Animal Kingdom in Dinoland U.S.A. You will ride a Time Rover with the mission of bringing back a live Iguanadon. Things go awry, the mission is aborted and you race back to earth before an asteroid hits. DINOSAUR ride feels a little like a mild Space Mountain without drops. It’s a fun ride that should not be missed!  

How Long is DINOSAUR Ride?

DINOSAUR Ride is approximately 3.5 minutes long. 

Is there a Long Wait to get into DINOSAUR Ride?

Yes, there is usually a wait to ride DINOSAUR. However, the wait is not as long as the more popular Avatar Flight of Passage or Na’vi River Journey. 

Is the Standby Line for DINOSAUR Indoors or Outdoors?

The majority of the standby line takes place indoors in air-conditioned spaces. Given the lack of air-conditioned areas at Animal Kingdom, it makes waiting in line tolerable.

Is DINOSAUR Ride a Lightning Lane Ride?

Yes, DINOSAUR is a Lightning Lane Ride.

How Long is the Wait in DINOSAUR Lightning Lane?

The wait is minimal when you get on the DINOSAUR Lightning Lane. You pretty much go straight to the ride. 

How Do I Buy DINOSAUR Lightning Lane?

You can buy Disney Genie+ Lightning Lane on the day of your visit to the park. You can then start to make your first Lightning Lane reservations at 7 am.

Does the Lightning Lane for DINOSAUR Sell Out?

No, Lightning Lane for DINOSAUR typically does not sell out by the end of the day. You can book your DINOSAUR Lightning Lane reservation as your 2nd or 3rd Lightning Lane ride of the day. Book Na’vi River Journey and Expedition Everest Lightning Lanes before reserving DINOSAUR Lightning Lane.

What Happens to My Lightning Lane When DINOSAUR Closes?

If DINOSAUR breaks down, your Lightning Lane pass will become a Multiple Experience Lightning Lane pass. It means you will be able to use your Lightning Lane anytime until the ride closes or you can book another Lightning Lane at other rides (some restrictions apply). 

From personal experience, when our DINOSAUR Lighting Lane turned into a Multiple Experience pass, I could book any rides except Avatar Flight of Passage and Expedition Everest.

Can I Ride DINOSAUR During Early Theme Park Entry?

Yes, you can ride DINOSAUR during early theme park entry. Early Theme Park Entry is available for guests staying at Disney World Resort.

Is Disney’s DINOSAUR Ride a Roller Coaster?

No, Disney’s DINOSAUR ride is not a roller coaster. It is a dark ride that runs on a track. There is a drop or two but it’s not intense at all since the drops are controlled drops. 

Is Disney’s DINOSAUR Ride Scary?

Disney’s DINOSAUR can be scary for small children. It is a dark ride with large menacing dinosaurs that can pop out of nowhere. Don’t sit in the front row if you have small children. Front row riders will get up close to a dinosaur overhead.

Will You Get Motion Sickness When Your Ride DINOSAUR?

There are a lot of jolting movements- up and down, side to side movements on the DINOSAUR ride. Some riders may experience mild motion sickness on DINOSAUR. I’m personally prone to motion sickness but I did not feel sick. The ride did leave me a little dizzy afterward.

What is the Minimum Height to Ride DINOSAUR?

The minimum height to ride DINOSAUR at Animal Kingdom is 40 inches (102 cm).

How Many People Can Fit in a row at DINOSAUR Ride?

Each row of the DINOSAUR ride can seat 4 people. There are 3 rows in the DINOSAUR Time Rover. You can fit a maximum of 12 people per Time Rover.

DINOSAUR Tips

1.The standby line to get on the DINOSAUR is not too long compared to other rides. If you are willing to wait in line, you don’t need to buy Genie+ Lightning Lane.
2. If you buy Lightning Lane, book the DINOSAUR Lightning Lane Reservations as your 2nd or 3rd Lightning Lane ride. I suggest you book the hardest rides to get first Na’vi River Journey and  Expedition Everest.
3. Get in line at the DINOSAUR Standby line when it is shortest which is usually in the morning before 10:30 am or late afternoon after 4 pm.
4. Don’t wear baseball hats or Mickey Mouse ears on the ride. Store it in the storage compartment in front of you.
