Jiminy Peak is a family-friendly ski resort in the Northeast. It is located in Massachusetts in the Berkshires. It’s conveniently located so it is an easy 3 hour drive from New York City. Jiminy Peak is the largest ski resort in southern New England with plenty of on mountain ski in/ski out accommodation options and several on-site restaurants. Jiminy Peak is my family’s go-to ski resort. We love going to Jiminy Peak because it is only 2.5 hours from our home in the New York suburbs. It is truly a family-friendly ski resort. 4 Reasons Why Jiminy Peak is a Family Friendly Ski Resort

1. Jiminy Peak is sized perfectly for families

Jiminy Peak is a family friendly ski resort because it is not overwhelmingly big and it is not too small either. The ski resort layout is logistically very manageable for families specially if they stay at one of the on-site ski in/ski out Jiminy Peak lodging. From years of skiing with kids, one of the most challenging things about a family ski vacation is the logistics- getting from one place to another, lugging skis and dealing with tired/cranky kids (and parents!). I think Jiminy Peak is the perfect sized ski resort for families because all the logistical challenges are minimized. The layout of Jiminy Peak is optimal where there is one central meeting point (JJ’s Lodge) that everyone pretty much ends up at even if you have kids skiing at different levels.

2. Lots of Ski In/Ski Out, Slopeside Accommodations at Jiminy Peak

There are many ski in/ski out accommodations at Jiminy Peak which is makes a very convenient ski resort for families since everything is located in one place.

3. Great Ski School at Jiminy Peak

Jiminy Peak has an excellent ski school for children. There is a hybrid ski school program for 3 year old and the regular ski school are for kids ages 4 to 14 years old.

4. Beginner Friendly Trails at Jiminy Peak

Jiminy Peak ski trails are beginner friendly. Of the 45 ski trails at Jiminy Peak, more than a third or 17 of the ski trails are green trails. There is even one green trail, the Left Bank that is over 2 miles long! Beginner skiers can take the lift up to the top of the mountain and ski all the way to the bottom. It’s great for beginner skiers to have such a long run to practice skiing on.

How Old Does My Child Have to Be to Go to Ski School at Jiminy Peak?

Jiminy Peak ski school program starts at 4 years old. They take kids up to 14 years old. The Jiminy Peak ski school is full day program with lunch. Kids can choose either ski or snowboard instruction.

Does Jiminy Peak have a Ski School Program for 3 year old kids?

Yes, Jiminy Peak has a hybrid ski program 3 year old kids. It’s basically a combination ski program where your 3 year old will spend half day on the slopes and half day in at a supervised playroom. Your child will spend the morning learning to ski on the slopes. Then at 11:30am parents will pick up their 3 year and take them to lunch. After lunch, the kids are dropped off at the Cub’s Den playroom for supervised fun and play. Kids participating in the Jiminy Peak 3 Year Old Ski Program must be fully potty trained.

Is the Ski School at Jiminy Peak Nut-Free?

Yes, Jiminy Peak Ski School is a nut-free ski school. As a mom of a child with a nut-allergy, I always feel better sending my son to a ski school that is nut-free.

Plus if you live in one of the ski in/ski out lodgings, it’s a great after dinner family activity.

Are there Terrain Parks At Jiminy Peak?

There are 3 terrain parks at Jiminy Peak with multiple sliding surfaces for intermediate and advanced skiers. Alex’s park has it’s own surface lift so you can go back again and again. There is a terrain park right off 180 (green trail). And there is sculpted snow on one side of the bunny hill (Jiminy Cricket), which is great fun for young skiers and snowboarders.
